“There’s a door beneath everything
you’ll walk right by
if you don’t stop to look
with that troubled heart
and a loving eye.”

– David Whyte

These days, our days that is,
we seem to find ourselves at thresholds
almost daily.

Ideas of normal
continuously challenged and debunked
Our bodies feel the lashes of reality
Our minds feverishly work to make sense of
what comes our way the moment we open our eyes,
after a night’s sleep that may or may not has afforded us
the rest we so desperately need.

Some say our hearts are not prepared
to hold the kind of grief, confusion, and hopelessness
our days are riddled with.

I say they are wrong.
Our hearts are vast vessels of love and compassion,
hope, empathy, and healing energy.

If we only hold the moments of our lives bravely, kindly,
and with honesty.
And if we don’t shy away from the nature of our days,
together and alone, we can hold and heal
and imagine a world of light,
beginning with the corner we have been vested with.
