Every day, faced with questions and choices
that keep us moving and doing and giving of ourselves
Until late at night we are finally made to stop
And maybe get the rest we so much crave.
Then, a new day begins
Our attention pulled in every which direction
Our emotions rumbling at times
like thunder follows lightning
How can they not
In this world that has no control over itself?
Our thoughts come and go
Our emotions, responses, and words triggered
by that which we don’t always have control over
Heading down a path that may not
be of our choosing at all times.
How do we know when to speak and when to keep silent?
How do we know who and what to invite in and
who and what to take our leave from?
Which burden is ours to carry and
which is best left to its proper owner?
How do we discern what is necessary
to think about
to talk about
to give our hearts to
to engage with, and
to let go of.
